The virgin queen is on the march
I’m not sure when she emerged, but there has been so much flying from the observation hive today that I thought a search for a newly emerged virgin queen might be in order.
The queen cells look little different from previous days, and the bees were covering them so well that I couldn’t see if they had been opened. But obviously at least one has.
And here she is, looking beautiful. dark and unexpectedly large — I’d expected her to be a little smaller as a virgin.
Now I must watch to see if I can her leave on her mating flights.
